Good deal on hardware

As a first-time buyer, I was looking for the best bang for my buck to get my small business off the ground. I managed to grab the Square Terminal during a seasonal hardware sale. The discount was pretty decent, and it came with everything I needed to start taking payments right away. I liked that it was all included and I didn't have to buy a bunch of separate pieces. It felt like a solid investment without breaking the bank, which was important for me.

Solid for small business

I recently picked up a Square Reader for magstripe and a receipt printer. The magstripe reader was free, which was a nice bonus for a new merchant. The printer works well and connects easily. My only minor gripe was that the tracking information for the printer felt a little sparse at first, making it hard to predict the exact delivery day. But overall, the experience was positive and the equipment is doing exactly what I need it to for my small craft store. Fees are pretty standard too.

Always reliable service

I've used Square for years now, mostly for my pop-up shop. My latest order for a new Square Reader for contactless and chip arrived quickly, just like all my previous hardware orders. Setup was a breeze, as usual. It's good to know I can always count on their stuff just working.

Easy to set up

Got the Square Stand for my little coffee cart. Honestly, I'm not super techy but it was pretty straightforward to get it going. Payment processing is quick and haven't had any hiccups with it yet. Made things a lot smoother than my old setup. Glad I finally got around to it.

Love my new Square Register

I finally upgraded to the Square Register and it's incredible! It looks so professional on my counter and the display is super clear. Everything runs so smoothly, from checking out customers to managing my inventory through the Square Dashboard. I can't believe I waited this long. Shipping was fast too, took only 4 days to get to me. Definitely shopping with Square again!

I'm in Los Angeles, if I order a Square Terminal online, how long does shipping usually take to get here?

A Alex 1 month ago
Mine took about 3-5 business days to get to me in NorCal last time, so LA might be similar.

Yeah, I think it's usually standard ground shipping, so probably less than a week.

Thinking of switching from Toast to Square for my restaurant. Anyone have experience with the Square for Restaurants platform? Is it pretty easy to use for front-of-house staff?

R Ryan S. 1 month ago
My FOH picked it up super fast, way easier than what we had before. The KDS integration is pretty smooth too.

It's decent, not as many bells and whistles as Toast maybe, but definitely user-friendly. Depends on your exact needs.

Just started looking at Square for my small business. I keep hearing about a 'free reader.' How do you actually get one of those?

N Neil 1 month ago
usually it's for new accounts signing up. they send you the magstripe one. I just signed up and it popped up as an option.

E Elena 1 month ago
Yeah, often it's when you first create your account, they'll offer it. Sometimes you get a link from another business that gives you a free reader too.

Does Square work okay on an older iPad? I've got a pretty old one I was hoping to use as a POS.

F Faith 2 months ago
It should be fine for basic stuff, but I'd check their minimum OS requirements. Newer iPads definitely run it smoother though.

T Troy Carter 2 months ago
My friend uses it on an iPhone 8 and it's a bit slow, so an older iPad might struggle a bit with the full POS features, but magstripe reader should be okay.

Planning to use Square for a pop-up shop. What's the deal with transaction fees? Is it a flat rate or does it change?

F Faith 2 months ago
It's a pretty straightforward percentage per transaction, not like a monthly fee for just taking payments. I think it's the same across the board for card swipes.

Yeah, it's a flat rate per swipe/chip/tap. Online transactions are a tiny bit different though, just fyi.

Hey, I'm thinking about getting a Square Terminal for my coffee shop. Does anyone know if they do any sales around the holidays? Or like, when's the best time to buy hardware?

S Sam Osei 2 months ago
Yeah, they usually have some good deals around Black Friday and Cyber Monday. I got my Register last year then, saved a decent chunk.

I think I saw something for end of year too, like December-ish. Definitely worth waiting a bit if you can.

Heard about some free processing offer for new merchants. How does that usually work, like is it a code or something you click on?

N Neil 2 months ago
Usually it's linked to a referral. Someone sends you a link, you sign up through that, and you get the free processing. No actual 'code' to type in.

N Noor A. 2 months ago
Yeah, I got my first grand in processing free through a friend's referral link. Just make sure you use the link when you create your account.
